This is my story
Kaity Heart has been singing since the tender age of 3 and professionally since 14. She got her start in musical theatre where she pursued a degree at University of Minnesota Duluth and graduated with a B.F.A in Musical Theatre, emphasis in vocal disorders, and a minor in Dance. There she trained both classically and in musical theater.
She performed in several musicals in and out of college including Pippin, Cabaret, Sweet Charity, Sound of Music, Guys and Dolls, Rocky Horror Picture Show and a long run of an Andrew’s Sisters Review out in Door County Wisconsin.
Deciding that musical theater just wasn’t for her-she started working with producer Marty Weintraub of Polygram Records doing demo and backup singing for different acts in the US and Europe including Sarah Connor and Lips Inc.
Falling in love with the studio and performing music, Kaity made the decision to leave theatre and classical music behind and pursue contemporary singing full time. Although, as a young singer…money was still a problem (AMIRIGHT!?) so she began teaching voice and putting her degree to work.
She has been teaching since 2007 and has now trained four Miss Minnesota’s for national competition, several bands, actors, comedians, and a glut of tiny adorable children that lovingly hang on her every word.
When she reached her teaching capacity of 50 students- she turned her love for teaching into a business called Heart’s Performing Arts, which a student named for her, and now has twelve teachers and over 200 students.
Her first band was entirely 80’s hair metal and although a complete flop but, a great learning experience. And then along came Randy Engebritson (Flipp, Useless, Hairball) and Michael Schneider (AKA Happy-Hairball, Chainsaw Caine, Jet Screamer) who helped her join Surly Jones; a 70’s rock group that focused on performance. Here she was the keyboard player, backup vocals and some lead vocals. This group did huge shows in front of incredible amounts of people where she learned to hone her stage skills and working large crowds. She will always be grateful for the time she spent in this band.
Kaity has also been involved in radio and podcasting driven by her love of the paranormal and was lucky enough to be a correspondent on Darkness Radio with TV’s Dave Schrader as well as host her own podcast One Bizarre Podcast. During this time Kaity got to travel, do panels and conventions, and speak on the paranormal (cryptids are her favorite!!) and do what she loves the most-meet new people!
After taking a short break from music to pursue the whole radio thing (it was so fun, seriously!), she joined three bands at once (because she can’t do anything half-hearted) Shirts & Skins, Anthony Shore’s All Star Band, and Revolver and the Secret Agents. Three Bands. Three completely different styles. Kaity LOVES a challenge and loves being busy.
In Shirts & Skins she gets to sing Rock, Funk, Country, Pop-basically everything while touring the country, dancing up a storm and singing things she wouldn’t normally pick. In Anthony Shore’s group-she’s the motown backup singer for this Elvis tribute-although sometimes she ends up being the ‘opera’ backup singer in a pinch! And in Revolver and the Secret Agents she would sing British Invasion tunes from the 60’s and 70’s.
Until 2022-Kaity ran a performing arts school aptly named: Heart’s Performing Arts that hosted at it’s prime 200 students, 14 teachers and up to 14 performances a year. She focused primarily on students that wanted to pursue contemporary music-training them classically but using popular music. Despite the school’s popularity-Covid-19 had other plans.
Currently, Kaity spends most of her time singing! As of July 2024 she is working with Shirts & Skins, Anthony Shore’s All Star Band, Sunflower, Mike and Kaity Do Acoustic Stuff in Minneapolis and working with Halson Griffiths in Nashville. Her love of 70’s rock runs incredibly deep and her current original project ‘Sunflower Fox and The Chicken Leg’ is a love letter to all things 70’s. The bands, the vans, and Hamms. Frankly, if it were up to her; all she would do all day is sing Heart and Fleetwood Mac.
In addition to all her current bands; Kaity has been lucky enough to play with members of: Queen, Vixen, The Dead Kennedys, The WallFlowers, Rhino Bucket, Butch Walker, Reliant K, Vain, Kix, and Cinderella.
In 2024 Kaity and her band were nominated for multiple awards including: ISSA’s ‘Song of the Year’ and ‘Rising Star of the Year’ and The Josie Awards ‘EP of the Year’ and ‘Rock Singer of the Year’
Finally. Kaity’s last name. People wonder about the name. She changed her name in 2007, the year her mom passed away.
She introduced Kaity to her favorite band: Heart.
